Late summer/early fall I stumbled across a warehouse with a bunch of old fire trucks parked around it. In spite of numerous "No Trespassing" and "Keep Out!" signs I stopped to have a look. I've been in volunteer fire service since '78 and couldn't pass this up. I wasn't there but a few minutes when a guy I would guess to be 80 pulled up in an old S10 Blazer asking what I was doing. I assured him I meant no harm and was only interested in looking and he must have sensed I was being honest because we had quite a conversation. He really didn't want me wandering around but told me there was a nationwide meet at his facility the upcoming weekend! There would be even more trucks and it was Open House! What follows are pics I took at this meet, old fire trucks in various states of repair or disrepair. Many of the manufacturers are no longer in business.
Feel free to add whatever info you might have on these, I found them interesting. I'm personally partial to commercial chassis conversions over full custom, it's what my department purchased when I first joined. Today a basic custom pump chassis cost anywhere between $500,000 and $1,000,000 depending on requirements!!
