Some minor repair

This is a RTLO18913A with a ruined 1st/5th speed gear which happened because of a forced shift. Repairing Eaton 9,10, 13 and 18 speed transmissions
is the best job in the shop for me. The parts and labor to repair this trans for the company was $1,150.00. The unit only had 125,000 miles on it so
the rear section was ok, just had to repair the front section.

Nice work Truck Shop ! :thumbsu

That sure brings back memories when I was working in a truck & equipment repair shop .

Always loved the transmission & rear end gear work .

I see a lot of similar parts to what I was used to working on and also see some new stuff .

Is the oil pump just for circulating through the oil cooler or does it also offer some lube pressure to the transmission ?

Seems like I remember " cant recall the name " of the new style smaller teeth on the gears but the advantage was two teeth were always it contact .

That's called Low Inertia, The L in RTLO. This trans is a high torque model and has the pump to pressure feed oil to the front section and the
auxiliary drive gear on the rear of the main shaft. This trans does not have what's called a halo, which is a tube that is sandwiched between
the bell and main case. It goes directly over the top of the main shaft and squirts oil straight down on to the main shaft. I have a halo at work
and will take a pic of it for you. Thanks

Yeah Truck Shop , that's interesting as I've never been in to one that uses the oil pump . Would appreciate the picture of the
" halo " set up .

The halo is just the oiling tube in the pic. It goes around the front bearing retainer and is pushed through the front case before the bell is installed.
The bell is machined with a round grove in it to accept the halo being sandwiched between case and bell housing. You can see the o-rings where it
pushes through to the pump and the long tube goes straight over the main shaft squirting oil down on it. It is a feature that does add some extra
life to the trans. One of the best things Eaton did.

Yeah , Truck Shop . This is all new to me , appreciate the photos Bro .

The bearing retainer looks machined for a seal on the input shaft ?

No the bearing retainer does not have a seal the input shaft has a reverse screw to thread the oil away and drain through the port on the bottom
of the retainer. Where the red notch is on the retainer it lines up with a port on the main case.

Yeah , gotcha Truck Shop . It's just like the old models with the reverse screw / helix . Pretty hard to improve on that set up .:thumbsu
